Cowboy Coffee
We borrowed this one from our friends at Caffe Del Fuego. Cowboy Coffee sounds tough as nails—but it’s got a softer side if you let it.
Caffe Del Fuego is a true coffee liqueur handcrafted in Austin, Texas. Smooth, rich, and full of character—coffee up front, with layers of vanilla, dark chocolate, and a touch of caramel rounding it out. In short… it’s damn tasty. Unless you don’t like coffee. Then you’ve got other problems.
The story goes back to 2013, when two cousins founded Remington Family Distillers using a recipe from an old Italian friend, Vincent Perry. Like most Italians, he took his food and drink seriously—and handed over the recipe with one simple condition: don’t screw it up. No pressure.
They didn’t.
“Caffe Del Fuego”—roughly coffee of the fire—leans into both Italian and Spanish roots. It’s great straight from the freezer, over ice, or doing exactly what we’re doing here—mixing it into something worth talking about.
Even if you’re not a big coffee person, this one’s worth a try. The bourbon pulls it back into balance, smoothing out the heavier coffee notes. Higher proof brings more whiskey forward, lower proof lets the coffee lead. Either way, the result is rich, a little sweet, and just enough kick to get your attention—caffeine included.
The recipe below is how we like it. But like most good things, it’s meant to be played with.
